Lego Heist Foiled

On February 9, 2024, officers responded to a burglary call for service at a business located on the 700 block of Admiral Callaghan Lane.

Vallejo Police Department (VPD) dispatch advised officers that an adult male suspect stole approximately $900 worth of Lego sets from the store. The store’s staff provided a detailed description of the suspect and a Hyundai Sonata with a reported stolen license plate waiting outside.

One patrol unit located the Sonata traveling westbound on Redwood Street near Fairgrounds Drive. Officers attempted a traffic stop, but the driver refused to pull over, leading to an 11-mile pursuit.

During the pursuit, the male passenger jumped out of the vehicle while it was traveling at approximately 50 mph.

Officers continued pursuing the driver until he lost control and collided with a retaining wall on Mississippi Street near Sacramento Street. The driver was arrested and transported to the hospital for medical clearance before incarceration. A records check revealed he had two outstanding felony warrants for grand theft and a traffic-related offense.

Officers searched the area where the passenger jumped out and were tipped off by a resident about an unknown male hiding in their backyard trashcan. Entering the residence’s rear, officers located the injured thief.

After being Mirandized, the thief admitted to stealing and selling Lego sets for income. He was admitted to a local hospital for significant injuries sustained from jumping out of a moving vehicle. A records check revealed he was on parole for possessing a stolen vehicle.

Two thumbs up to the vigilant citizen and our hardworking graveyard patrol team! Community policing is teamwork at its finest!
